OUTDOOR PRESENTATION A FIRST FOR AIRLIE
31st March 2008
This Friday on the foreshore of Airlie Beach, Fantasea Adventure Cruising is excited to announce it will be showing the first outdoor
educational presentation on how climate change can affect our lives and the area in which we live.
As part of on-going initiatives of the Fantasea Foundation, Fantasea Adventure Cruising has purchased a large outdoor screen and projector
to create something new and interesting for people to experience. The Climate Project will be presented by Emily Smart on Friday 4 April at
sunset (approx 6:30pm). Emily Smart, marine biologist and co-ordinator of the Fantasea Foundation, was trained by Al Gore in Melbourne
last year to become a climate messenger. The slide-show is based on the Oscar-winning movie An Inconvenient Truth. The presentation length
is approximately one hour including question time and is suitable for adults and children 12 years and older.
Fantasea CEO Hume Campbell said, “Fantasea Adventure Cruising is trying to create new and interesting ways to improve our knowledge and
conserve one of the most beautiful and significant tourism areas of Australia. With the purchase of this large inflatable screen we are
able to offer something totally new to Airlie Beach”.
“In the past six months Fantasea has established Fantasea on the Esplanade, a new concept in retailing where the traditional booking office
is supported by a resource centre and micro café. These outdoor presentations are just another step towards creating a fantastic environment
for children and adults alike to come and learn more about the area in which we live and the effects of climate change. I hope the community
will support our new endeavour.”
The presentation will be subject to favourable weather conditions and will take place on the grass area adjacent to Fantasea on the Esplanade
in Airlie Beach. Please bring a chair or blanket for extra comfort. The Climate Project Presentation will talk about the impacts of climate
change and what we can do as individuals to help minimize our impact on the climate and the area in which we live. Emily Smart is also
available at other times to present this talk to local businesses and school groups.
