SLEEPOVER MAKEOVER FOR REEFWORLD
26th June 2008
Reefworld, featuring Australia’s only Great Barrier Reef sleepover, re-opens Friday June 27 after an extensive refurbishment.
Moored on Hardy Reef 51 nautical miles from the coast, the Reefworld pontoon provides a unique viewing, snorkel and scuba diving platform
from which day visitors can explore the surrounding coral and marine life.
Reefsleep, the ultimate in Barrier Reef experiences, offers fully catered overnight accommodation in one of two rooms, one fitted with a
king size bed for couples and the other with four bunks for friends or families to share.
As part of the refurbishment, both rooms have been re-decorated and fitted with new furniture, bedding, lighting, mini-fridge and desk
reflecting all the comforts of a modern hotel room.
Interior Designer Susie Beirne from Island Edge Maison Jardin located at Airlie Beach and Gold Coast was retained to create a bright and
inviting tropical-inspired look for the accommodation rooms. The decor now includes bold candy stripes of turquoise, lime and chocolate
to offset the crisp white bed linen and fresh parchment walls.
New scatter cushions, bed heads, bedside tables, lamps and artworks are all part of the new look which is complemented by the comfort of
open port holes for fresh air or air-conditioning.
In the late afternoon, when the last Fantasea high speed catamaran departs for Airlie Beach with its Reefworld day trippers, Reefsleep guests
can relax and enjoy the tranquility of the reef.
In the evenings, the absence of light ensures a spectacular star show as the constellations of the southern galaxies and their thousands of
stars illuminate the skies.
In the morning, guests awake to a spectacular sunrise as the first rays of light play over the deep blue water as it breaks over the reef in
the dawn stillness.
The underwater viewing chamber has also been redecorated and a massage service is now available from the ‘Harmony Hut’ on the sundeck with
screens providing privacy without impeding the stunning sea views.
Stylish new sun lounges, dining tables and a mix of white and bright-as-a daisy yellow chairs provide added comfort to laze in the sun or from
which to enjoy lunch while absorbing the ocean panorama.
Reefworld’s retail facility, ‘Reef Boutique’, has been upgraded and expanded to include a new range of beachwear clothing, sun products, and
Fantasea merchandise. A hot pink waterslide with a 4 metre drop from the sundeck into the warm waters of the reef provides an added attraction
for families. (Installation date scheduled for August).
Reefworld activities include, semi-submersible rides, guided snorkel tours with marine biologist, scuba diving, viewing marine life in the
underwater chamber and the facilities of a free Club Seahorse child minding service. A family group ticket covering two adults and three
children is $495 including buffet lunch, morning and afternoon tea.
Reefsleep packages include return transfers, two days and one night’s accommodation, two scuba dives or guided snorkel tours, dinner including
alcoholic beverages, breakfast, two lunches and the services of a designated Reefsleep host.
Reefsleep rates are $400 per person twin share in the four share bunk-style room or $570 per person twin share in the king room.
