Palm Beach

Palm Beach is situated approximately 40km from Sydney CBD and is Sydney’s most northerly beach positioned on the Pacific Ocean foreshores; it has the magnificent waterways of Pittwater nestled behind, which is an inlet of Broken Bay. Barrenjoey Headland and lighthouse strongly dominates the end of the Northern Peninsula with its stunning views of West Head and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

Palm Beach is famous for numerous things, mainly being the location for the popular TV series “Home and Away”. It houses some of Sydney’s most exclusive and prestigious real estate owned by well-known movie stars, writers and prominent Australian identities.

Palm Beach is 3km long with a superb surfing beach; it also has a delightful 50 metre ocean swimming pool where you will find many recognised locals having their morning swim. Other activities include fishing, golf, sailing or diving, Palm Beach is an exclusive suburb saturated in an abundance of natural beauty; it is well worth a day trip to experience this tranquil peaceful and casual beachside village, or a better option is to have a weekend away.

Palm Beach has a regular bus service that will take you all the way into the city passing all of the coastal suburbs on the way. It is just a short ride to the local shopping centre’s where you can pick up all the latest Sydney styles.

Central Coast Service


Wagstaffe is a quiet quaint suburb on the South Eastern Peninsula of the Central Coast. Waterfront homes line the Brisbane Waters and the surf beach is just a short stroll over the hill.

Wagstaffe offers numerous dining options in neighbouring suburbs Killcare and Hardys Bay. There is a limited Bus service from Wagstaffe so it is best to have your family and friends meet you at the wharf so you can continue your journey.

Wagstaffe wharf is situated at the end of Mulhall Street and is the first stop on our Ettalong service.


Ettalong Beach is the boom suburb on the Central Coast. There are cinemas, boat hire, numerous restaurants – including The Ettalong Beach Club, cafes, clubs, boutiques and accommodation not to mention the Ettalong Markets which operate on weekends so everyone can catch a bargain.

Ettalong has over 2km of white sandy beaches which are perfect for the kids to swim whilst Mum and Dad relax in the sun. Try your hand at Pelican feeding in neighbouring suburb Woy Woy or learn to surf at nearby local surf beaches. Ettalong has regular public transport to Woy Woy Train Station and the Gosford City Centre. You could even go and watch the Central Coast Mariners or a host of other sporting events at the Blue Tongue Stadium in Gosford. Come and stay here or continue your travels North up the East Coast of NSW where everyday is a new adventure.

The Basin Service

Coasters Retreat – Bennetts and Bonnie Doon

This small community contains both full time and part time residents who enjoy their waterfront retreats looking North East towards Lion Island and Palm Beach. Coasters Retreat is located in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park is a recreational favourite for locals and visitors alike. A heritage-listed park, it combines important history with scenic beauty. Winding creeks and stretches of ocean meet rainforest and eucalypts, rocky cliffs and mangroves. Camp at The Basin or spend your time exploring walking tracks, mountain biking trails, breathtaking lookouts and significant Aboriginal sites. Learn more about Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

Coasters is made up of fifty holiday houses set in the bush and beside the beach. Two of them date from settlement in 1922-1924. Coasters Retreat has no road or land access and is entirely dependent on transport via our Palm Beach Ferries service.

Please be informed that repairs and maintenance at Bennetts Wharf are due to commence on Monday 18 March, the 7:45am workers ferry will depart from Bonnie Doon until further notice.

The Basin

The Basin is located 42 kilometres north of Sydney in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, on the western shores of Pittwater, beside Coasters Retreat.

The Basin is perfect for a day out with family and friends and can even cater for large groups such as Weddings and School groups. The Basin caters for 400 campers on non powered sites as well as acres of unspoilt beauty in the National Park. The Basin is protected by the National Parks and Wildlife Service and with deep water anchorage and protected swimming lagoon, The Basin is truly one of Sydney’s sun drenched, idyllic natural wonders.

The amenities include toilets and showers, laundry, electric BBQs and under cover tables. Take your family and friends because the area caters for all ages with the sheltered and netted swimming areas, bush walking trails, Indigenous engravings, fishing sights and native wildlife including Kangaroos, Wallabies, Goannas, Koalas and much more…

Departing from Palm Beach wharf regularly, the picturesque round trip on board our Palm Beach Ferry Service takes approximately 45 minutes.


Currawong Beach is located in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, on the western shores of Pittwater, beside Great Mackerel Beach and north of The Basin. Coasters Retreat and Palm Beach are located nearby.

Currawong Cottages

Currawong is home to the eco-friendly rustic Currawong Cottages. When you stay here you really feel like you are at one with nature. There is all the wildlife of The Basin plus a tennis court, 6 hole golf course, volleyball and lots to do. Enjoy your own private 300 metres of beach for a spot of swimming and sun baking or try your hand at fishing from the wharf. The secluded location makes it perfect for couples, families and large groups. Book your accommodation at the Currawong cottages.

Access is by ferry from the northern beaches suburb of Palm Beach, 40kms from the centre of Sydney.

Mackerel Beach

Mackerel Beach is a locality 43 kilometers north of Sydney. It is on the western shores of Pittwater in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, beside Currawong Beach, and near Coasters Retreat and Palm Beach.

Great Mackerel Beach Reserve covers most of the headland between Currawong Beach. The Reserve occupies 16 hectares and has residential properties along the northern boundary. The Reserve provides panoramic views and is accessed from above via the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park fire trail or from below by a track linking the two beaches.

There are over 50 homes at Mackerel Beach half of which are lived in full time. Mackerel has a great sandy beach that is perfect for the children and is the starting point for numerous bushwalks leading up to The Basin or West Head lookout. Come to stay at Mackerel for the day or hire a house and make a week of it, either way you won’t be disappointed.

Great Mackerel Beach has no road access and no roads or vehicles; access is by our Palm Beach Ferry, water taxi, or private boat.
